What People Say

In Their Own Words

Nurul Rashida

George Town, Penang

"I had been putting off sorting my documents for years. The walkthrough session moved at a sensible pace and by the end of three hours, my folder was actually labeled and ready to use. I had tried doing this myself a few times before — having someone walk through the categories with me made all the difference."

"My wife and I attended the Caregiver Series together after realizing we had no clear picture of my parents' insurance situation. The sessions gave us a framework to have conversations we had been avoiding. Not everything was resolved in three workshops, but we had a much clearer starting point by the end."

"I joined the yearlong programme about eight months ago. It has been more useful than I expected — not because of dramatic changes, but because having a monthly check-in keeps me from letting things slide. My mother's records are in better shape now than they have been in years."

"The thing I appreciated most was that nobody told me what to do with my actual documents. They walked through the categories, I followed along and organized, and the session was over. Very clear about what they do and don't cover."

"I was a bit sceptical about whether a three-hour session would actually produce results. It did. The facilitator moved through the EPF and tax section slowly enough that I could keep up and ask questions without feeling rushed. My only feedback was that I wished the session ran a little longer — there was a lot to cover."

"My siblings and I enrolled in the Caregiver Series after my father had a brief hospitalisation. Getting access to various documents at short notice was difficult and we realised we needed a better system. The series helped us have conversations as a family that we had been delaying for a long time."

A Closer Look at Three Journeys

The Situation

Pre-retirement professional, Penang Hill area

A fifty-eight-year-old secondary school teacher nearing retirement realized she had no organized record of her twenty-two years of EPF contributions, insurance policies, or property documents. Several were stored in different locations and some could not be located at all.

What Happened

She attended the Household Records Walkthrough and then enrolled in the Caregiver Information Series to prepare for discussions with her adult children. Over six weeks, she produced a complete labeled folder system and a household contact directory.

The Outcome

Within two months she had located all major documents and arranged them by category. Her daughter, who attended the final caregiver session with her, described the experience as transforming a source of family anxiety into a manageable task.

"I felt lighter coming out of the last session."

The Situation

Three adult siblings, elderly parent in Jelutong

Three siblings managing the household affairs of their eighty-one-year-old mother had no shared understanding of which documents existed, where they were kept, or who held responsibility for which accounts. Disagreements about the process were creating friction.

What Happened

All three enrolled in the Caregiver Information Series on a single seat and attended together. The second session focused specifically on family conversation frameworks — providing a structured approach to dividing household responsibilities across generations.

The Outcome

By the third session they had agreed on a shared document checklist and assigned responsibility for each category. One sibling continued into the Yearlong Programme for ongoing support. The shared workbook became a reference they all used.

"The conversation framework from session two was the most useful thing we got out of this."

The Situation

Early-career couple, recently moved to Penang

A couple in their early thirties had relocated from Kuala Lumpur and wanted to set up a proper household document system from the start, before records accumulated without organization. Neither had organized their full document set before.

What Happened

Both attended the Household Records Walkthrough in the early-career track. The session covered identity documents, EPF basics, employment records, and household correspondence — the categories most relevant to their stage. Each left with a labeled folder and a checklist of documents still to collect.

The Outcome

The couple described the session as useful precisely because it was practical rather than conceptual. Within a month they had completed their checklists and set up a shared household folder system that both understood.

"Better to do this now than after ten years of accumulated papers."
